World Internet Conference makes CIFTIS debut

With the theme “opening-up leads development, cooperation delivers the future,” the 2023 China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS) concluded on Sept 6. More than 1,100 achievements were reached during the fair, which saw over 20 percent of international participation among exhibitors. International organizations also participated in the fair, and it is the first time for the World Internet Conference to attend the fair and set an online exhibition.

IOC establishes Esports Commission

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced on Sept 6 that it has established the IOC Esports Commission. The IOC thinks that virtual sports have become an important part of the sports field, according to its official website.

New technology enables robots to deal with wrinkled fabric 

Researchers from Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich recently introduced a new computing technology which could visualize wrinkled fabric and help robots plan effective strategies to hold fabric when doing housework and conduct a series of operations. 
Israeli new study uses Meta coordination AI tool to treat cancerTechnion, Israel Institute of Technology, recently disclosed it has developed an innovative way of combining biology, chemistry and AI tools to treat cancer. The treatment is based on the concept of Meta coordination, which is a fusion of different medicines with the help of AI. It forms nanometer particles through a self-assembly chemical process, and is more effective than use of an individual medicine.

Nearly three quarters of enterprises see AI as the most important digital investment, and pay special attention to how to improve operation resilience amid complex and hostile external environment, according to a report released by Accenture.

Apple’s Vision Pro headset to include iPhone and iPad app stores 

Apple announced that the upcoming VisionOS developer beta will include a new app store, according to the blog of Apple developers. By default, iPad and iPhone applications will be automatically released on the app store of Vision Pro.

BMW to develop semi-autonomous driving assistance system with Amazon’s cloud computing technology 

German car manufacturer BMW and US tech giant Amazon announced on Sept 5 that BMW will develop its semi-autonomous driving assistance system with Amazon’s cloud computing technology. 

TikTok opens data center in Ireland

TikTok released a statement announcing that the first data center in Dublin, Ireland, has been put into operation and that the company has started to transfer data of European users to this center. TikTok said that another two data centers in Norway and Ireland are under construction.

The US newspaper giant Gannett has stopped using AI to write articles, as these articles written by AI are mocked by people on social media. The company has previously been testing using AI tools in its regional publications.
