China Tourism and Culture Week global event, founded in 2016 and developed from the former China Cultural Week, is an important event directed by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and jointly organized by overseas China Cultural Centers and China National Tourist Offices (hereinafter referred to as Culture Centers and Tourist Offices) in the middle of each year.

2022 China Tourism and Culture Week Introduction

China Tourism and Culture Week focuses on spreading Chinese culture and promoting Chinese tourism. Every year, it focuses on a specific theme, elaborately designs the form and content of activities, and intensively launches high-level activities for people overseas. In September 2022under the unified deployment of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, 56Culture Centers and Tourist Offices organized China Tourism and Culture Week activities in 40 countries, giving full play to the flexible power of culture and tourism. The activities center on five thematic parts: intangible cultural heritage and poverty alleviation, revitalization of rural China, urban construction, Yellow River culture, and tourism and culture along the Silk Road. They help to elaborate the New Development Philosophy, Global Development Initiative, and the concept of a community of shared future for all humankind, demonstrating the fruitful achievements of the protection and inheritance of excellent traditional Chinese culture, telling wonderful stories of culture and tourism in helping poverty alleviation and rural revitalization, and showcasing the outstanding achievements made by the Chinese people under the leadership of the Communist Party of China.

China Tourism and Culture Week Overseas: Innovations and Highlights

The 2022 China Tourism and Culture Week Overseas global event actively responds to the recent and rapid development of the internet and new media communication and closely follows the trend of mobilization, socialization, and visualization in international communication, meticulously designing and producing short videos related to the themes of culture and tourism. China tourism courses are released online and posted on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, TikTok Instagram, Line, and other global or regional new media platforms that are widely accepted by overseas audiences, especially by Generation Z. Empowered by new media and through the combination of online and offline approaches, the event has helped to build a global communication patter and was widely praised by the worldwide public, especially the young generation, receiving 100 million online views during the event. It has become a powerful tool for strengthening international communication power.

China Tourism and Culture Week Overseas: Social Impacts

China Tourism and Culture Week has attracted active attention and wide recognition from the global audience through vivid stories and practices. The Beautiful China painting competition organized by the China Cultural Center in Yangon drew the attention of many local people, and the Facebook account of the Yangon Chinese Cultural Center for this activity alone received nearly 250,000 views.

The special live broadcasting organized by the China Cultural Center in Laos showcased the development achievements of contemporary China to the local people, which triggered a frenzy, and the interactive data was "top stream" in Laos.

Governments at all levels, cultural and tourism organizations friendly personnel, and scholars from all walks of life from Greece, Mongolia, and the United Kingdom participated in the themed activities organized by the culture centers and tourism offices.

Boris Svetlov, former Minister of Culture of Belarus, said "Chinese culture, Chinese wisdom, and the initiative to jointly build The Belt and Road are China's great contributions to the world, making people of all countries more deeply aware of the great significance of promoting the building of a community with a shared future for all humankind."

The World Internet Conference (WIC) was established as an international organization on July 12, 2022, headquartered in Beijing, China. It was jointly initiated by Global System for Mobile Communication Association (GSMA), National Computer Network Emergency Response Technical Team/Coordination Center of China (CNCERT), China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC), Alibaba Group, Tencent, and Zhijiang Lab.
