In the history of Gulangyu Island, the piano has always been an indispensable cultural symbol that locals take pride in as part of their inheritance and development from the past. 

Since the first edition of the Gulangyu Piano Festival kicked off in 2002, the biennial festival has seen eight superb sessions come and go. It has become a notable music brand for the piano island, and is a non-profit and high-level music art fest hosted by Gulangyu for the world.
