Lin Kesheng (1897-1969), or Lim Kho-Seng, was born in Singapore in 1897. He was a famous physiologist who discovered enterogastrone, the first gastrointestinal hormone discovered in China.

Lin graduated in 1919 with a bachelor's degree in Medicine from Edinburgh University, where he subsequently earned doctorates in both psychology and science.

He taught at Xiamen University after he returned to China. He was then appointed associate professor and head of department at Peking Union Medical College.

In 1927, Lin founded the Chinese Physiological Society and was editor-in-chief of the Chinese Journal of Physiology. He was elected president of the Chinese Medical Association in 1928.

During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1931-45), Lin established an ambulance corps in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, and served as the leader. He was also appointed surgeon general of the Chinese expedition team to Burma from 1942 to 1944.

After the war, he was chosen as academician of the Academia Sinica and health minister of the Nanjing National Government during the Republic of China period (1912-49).
