Xiamen in East China's Fujian province plans to increase the amount of charging infrastructure, including charging ports, to 26,000 by 2020 to meet the rising demand for new energy vehicles, local media reported on June 10.

The construction of charging ports is developing rapidly in Xiamen. At present, the city has 294 charging stations, covering its six districts. By the end of last year, the city's charging port density ranked among the top in China.

By April this year, Xiamen had built about 4,500 public charging ports (including special piles for buses), among which about 3,700 are direct current charging ports. It is estimated that a car can be fully charged in about half an hour with direct current charging ports.

According to Xiamen's new energy plan, the city will promote more than 26,000 new energy vehicles by 2020, realizing an output value of 50 billion yuan ($7.23 billion).
