More than 10,000 people from Taiwan have signed up for the upcoming 11th Straits Forum, which is set to be held on June 15 in Xiamen, East China's Fujian province, local media have reported.
The event, in its 11th session, is becoming more and more popular among people from both sides of the Straits. The number of co-sponsored organizations has surged from 54 in 2009 to 82 in 2019.
The forum values mutual trust and identification among compatriots on both sides and is dedicated to offering more opportunities for young people from Taiwan to pursue their career dreams in the Chinese mainland.
A raft of youth-themed activities, such as an academic camp, youth forums and internship matchmaking, is expected to attract more attendees from both sides.
As the host city, Xiamen is expected to undertake 15 side events alongside the main forum on June 16. The week-long forum will focus on communication among young people, grass-roots exchange, and cultural and economic exchange, while also featuring a cross-Straits temple fair and dragon boat race.
As of 2018, the number of participants from Taiwan reached more than 100,000 and this year's event will surpass the previous ones in terms of size and scale.
