A two-day symposium on innovation in teaching and world-class undergraduate education was held at Xiamen University (XMU) in Fujian province from Nov 2 to 3.

The International Conference on Innovation in Higher Education Teaching and World-Class Undergraduate Education had six main topics, including the innovation and development of teaching, the development of a world-class undergraduate education, artificial intelligence, and teaching reform.

Pan Maoyuan, honorary president of XMU's Institute of Education, noted that undergraduate education plays a vital role in cultivating high-level talent, and world-class universities shall take on the responsibility of developing a top-notch undergraduate education system.

Zhang Rong, president of Xiamen University, said at the conference that the development of higher education is a reflection of the country's overall development level and potential. XMU has always placed particular importance on undergraduate education and promoted innovation in teaching in an effort to cultivate well-rounded and high-quality talents.

Zhang expressed hope that domestic and international experts and scholars would work together to forge ahead with the development of a first-class undergraduate education and talent cultivation system in response to the trend of globalization and informatization.
