Xiamen welcomes China's premier film festival

The 28th Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival is currently in full swing in the coastal city of Xiamen, Fujian province, and the city is hosting a cinematic art extravaganza. The event will run until Nov 23.
The festival, regarded as China's foremost film event, has been held in 26 cities across the country since it was first established in 1992. It will be held in Xiamen for the next five years, including this year.
The five-day affair includes several events and cultural activities, including an award ceremony, film screenings, forums, seminars, and opening and closing ceremonies, attracting a dazzling array of Chinese A-list movie stars and directors, including international legend Jackie Chan, filmmaker Zhang Yimou, and celebrated actress Zhou Xun and actor Chen Kun.
A total of 277 films, including 103 feature films, 82 small and medium-sized feature films, 25 children's films, 12 animated or puppetry films, 7 science and education films, 20 opera films, and 28 documentaries, were submitted for awards consideration this year, more than any other year in history. Nineteen awards will be given out for best picture, best director, best actor, best actress, and more on Nov 23.
