Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU)'s Professor Li Gengfeng of School of Electrical Engineering and Professor Yang Guidong of the School of Chemical Engineering and Technology recently received the 18th China Youth Science and Technology Award. The award ceremony was held during the plenary session of the 2024 World Young Scientist Summit, which took place on Nov 17 in Wenzhou, East China's Zhejiang province.

The China Youth Science and Technology Award, established in 1987, is a prestigious honor for young scientists and technologists across the country. Originally proposed by renowned scientists such as Qian Xuesen, the award aims to cultivate a generation of young academic and technological leaders at the forefront of global science and technology.

It recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to national economic development, social progress, and scientific innovation. The award is presented biennially, with no more than 100 recipients per session. Over the past three decades, approximately 1,700 young scientists have received the honor.

Li Gengfeng obtained his PhD from XJTU in 2014 and has since remained at the university as a faculty member. He has served successively as a lecturer, associate professor, and professor, and is currently the director of the Shaanxi Key Laboratory of Smart Grid. His research focuses on power system planning and reliability, resilience assessment and enhancement of power systems, and the application of artificial intelligence in power systems.
