As the New Year's bell for 2026 is about to ring, Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) extends its sincere wishes and heartfelt gratitude to all faculty, students, staff members, retirees, alumni at home and abroad, and friends from all sectors of society who care about and support the university's development.

In 2025, XJTU was selected by the Ministry of Education as a pilot unit for the comprehensive reform of the moral education mechanism, promoting the coordinated development and innovative progress of ideological and political courses and curriculum-based education.

XJTU again received high praise in the latest round of undergraduate education and teaching audits and evaluations. It took the lead in releasing construction achievements of the "101 Plan" in artificial intelligence and implemented the "artificial intelligence pioneer program," adding 37 new national first-class undergraduate courses.

The university was named a national demonstration university for the construction of "one-stop" student communities. It also implemented the "Xinghang", "Pandeng", "Shouyan", and "Fanxing" programs, aiming to strengthen physical fitness through sports, nourish the soul through aesthetic education, and temper willpower through labor education.

XJTU achieved remarkable results in the China International College Students' Innovation Competition, ranking first nationally in cumulative gold medals for 11 consecutive sessions. Forty-two gold-medal teams from the "Challenge Cup" National College Students' Entrepreneurship Competition and the China International Students' Innovation Competition settled in iHarbour, advancing the integration of entrepreneurship and academic studies.

The university deepened the reform of the education evaluation mechanism for academic degree applications based on practical achievements, and the first doctoral candidate to apply with practical achievements passed the final oral examination.

In line with the Party's talent management, XJTU continuously optimized the long-term mechanisms for teachers' ideological and political work and the cultivation of teachers' ethics and conduct, and improved the system of "sincerely loving, earnestly cultivating, wholeheartedly introducing, and carefully employing talents."

The university persisted in the efforts of other universities, local governments, and enterprises in going global, and the introduction of talents by the government, enterprises, and universities, improving the support system for "leading talent," "outstanding young talent," and "excellent young talent" programs, as well as the recruitment and sharing model characterized by "recruited by universities, funded by enterprises, supported by the government, jointly employed, and benefiting all parties."

One academician and more than 100 national-level talents were added, and 452 talents were recruited by both the university and enterprises. Several teachers and teams won honors such as the National Model Worker, the National Huang Danian-style Teacher Team in Universities, the Wu Wenjun Award for Artificial Intelligence Science and Technology Achievement, the Advanced Collective of the National Health Systems, the Bethune Medal, and the Pioneer Award for Young People in the New Era.

XJTU also implemented the "leapfrog development of basic disciplines, peak-building of engineering disciplines, upgrading of medical disciplines, and prosperity and revitalization of liberal arts."

The university cultivated the multi-disciplinary development ecology of "X+Artificial Intelligence," deepened the construction of interdisciplinary centers for cutting-edge science and technology, set up construction projects, science and technology projects, and artificial intelligence-empowered scientific research projects to promote the quality and efficiency of discipline construction.

XJTU ranked top 10 in the Shanghai Ranking's Best Chinese Universities Ranking and among the top 100 in the Academic Ranking of World Universities. Power engineering and engineering thermophysics, electrical engineering, nuclear science and technology, and forensic medicine ranked first nationwide, with the number of top-ranked disciplines tying for third place. Nineteen disciplines entered the ESI's top 1 percent, six disciplines entered the top 1‰, and Engineering entered the top 1‱, ranking seventh in the world.

The feasibility study report for the national major science and technology infrastructure of the electromagnetically driven fusion large scientific facility was approved, and construction of the national medical center and the advanced multi-functional high-pulse generation and application project was initiated.

XJTU implemented initiatives to promote basic research and interdisciplinary research, enhanced the organizational level of basic research, and approved the establishment of a national "Belt and Road" joint laboratory.

The number of approved major scientific research platforms at provincial and ministerial levels, national major key projects, and projects with funding over 10 million yuan continued to rise, and the amount of scientific research funding received set new records.

The number of papers led by XJTU published in Nature and Science reached a new high, with research achievements selected as among the Top 10 Advances in Meteorological Science and Technology in China. The university was granted 2,423 patents, completed 138 scientific and technological achievement commercialization projects, and transferred and licensed 316 achievements, ranking highly in the China University Patent Transfer Ranking.

The number of approved national social science fund projects reached a record high, including eight key projects of the National Social Science Fund, tying for first place nationwide. The ‌International Communication Center for New Mass Literature and Art was rated as a national think tank platform, and three think tanks were selected as Top 100 University Think Tanks in China, of which one was rated an A+ class think tank. A total of 323 policy suggestions were adopted and approved by authorities at or above provincial and ministerial levels.

XJTU further implemented the 6352 Innovation Project and improved the "1121" enterprise-led industry-education deep integration model. Construction of the demonstration zone for the reform of education, science, technology, and talent integration also made solid progress.

To date, XJTU has signed co-building agreements with 255 enterprises, including 59 Fortune Global 500 and 78 China Top 500. It has established 100 industry-university deep-integration innovation consortia, hired 1,091 enterprise mentors, trained 2,326 engineering master's and doctoral students, and incubated 271 technology-based enterprises.

XJTU established the iHarbour College and the Technology Manager College and optimized and rebuilt the National University Science Park. Progress has also been made in the construction of the science and technology achievement supermarket, the concept verification center, the Qin-iHarbour Incubator, and the iHarbour International Venture Capital (Fund) Town. The university has continued to host the Belt and Road Key and Core Technology Achievement Trade Fair, further enhancing international influence and resource aggregation capacity.

XJTU undertook the construction of the China-Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Higher Education Cooperation Center, the Chinese Presidential Office of SCO University, and took the lead in establishing the Digital Education Alliance of SCO Member States, contributing to building an important education center with global influence and an SCO education community, as well as China's construction of an important education center with global influence.

It also implemented the Global Development Initiative Action Plan 2030, established several overseas centers, built the China-Central Asia Center Enclave Sci-Tech Park, and promoted the expansion of industry-education integration under the Belt and Road Initiative.

The university promoted the development of undergraduate courses taught entirely in English in key and advantageous disciplines. The number of international students hit a new high, and the quality certification of international student education in China was rated A+ again, further enhancing recognition of the "Study in XJTU" brand.

XJTU deepened the "enclave innovation and offshore incubation" model, accelerated the construction of off-site research institutes in Hong Kong, Suzhou, Shanghai, and Inner Mongolia, and co-developed the XJTU International Regional Innovation Center with Hainan province, enabling cross-regional collaborative innovation to better serve national strategies and regional high-quality development.

The university implemented reforms in evaluation, distribution, and management, thereby stimulating innovation and creativity. It further optimized the campus layout and approved construction of the iHarbour Xianyang New Area.

XJTU released a list of initiatives to empower alumni and support their development, and established a mutual promotion mechanism for alumni and university development. It also made solid progress in building a smart, civilized, green, and safe campus.

Cultural and sports activities for teachers and students were held, the "one network for all services" platform was optimized, and data governance for the "one network for all information" became more efficient.

Coverage and accuracy of financial aid for students improved, faculty and staff income and benefits increased steadily, and the sense of gain and happiness among teachers and students was enhanced.

2026 marks the first year of the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30) and also the 130th anniversary of XJTU's founding and the 70th anniversary of its westward academic relocation. The university will bear in mind the "major issues of the country" and adhere to the school-running orientation of "rooting in the west, serving the country, and building a world-class university." It will also rely on all faculty and students to run the university, write a brilliant new chapter for XJTU, and make greater contributions to advancing the cause of building a powerful country through Chinese-style modernization.
