Dark reddish purple waxberries grown on the mountains in Shushan village, Suzhou New District, are ready to satisfy foodies with their refreshing sweet and sour flavor.

Abundant sunlight and less rain this year have brought waxberries with sweeter flavors and lovelier looks.

Shushan villagers have grown the sweet and sour berries for more than 400 years, and historical records say that Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) favored Shushan waxberries when touring East and South China.
