One hundred and fifty Suzhou embroidery works and related items are on display at the Shenzhen Museum in Shenzhen, Guangdong province, until June 4.
Unlike traditional art and craft exhibitions, this exhibition not only showcases Suzhou embroidery, but also the development of the art form since the founding of the people's Republic of China in 1949 and documents related to the craft.
The exhibition, therefore, is divided into four parts based on time: from 1949 to 1958, from 1959 to 1979, from 1980 to 2000, and from 2001 to 2019. It showcases the achievements of Suzhou embroiderers in preservation, innovation, and exchanges.
Suzhou embroidery, known for its beautiful patterns and elegant colors, has a history of more than 2,000 years and in 2006 it was listed among the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage items.
