The 1,000-year-old temple fair Yalianhua, or hustling lotus flowers in English, resumed in Gulianhua Temple in Tong'an town, Suzhou New District, East China's Jiangsu province, on Sept 14.

Yalianhua is an intangible cultural heritage item in the SND and each July 30 of the lunar calendar, Gulianhua Temple hosts the temple fair.

Bustling crowds, eye-catching products, wonderful dances and songs are the essence of the temple fair, where opera performances and traditional dragon and lion dances are staged to entertain fair-goers.

SND in recent years has explored the cultural connotation and aesthetic features of Yalianhua and developed a cartoon image of Yalianhua as well as cartoon imaged-themed emojis and mobile games.

Tong'an Town Art Troupe also invited dance teachers at Nanjing Normal University to choreograph a dance based on the temple fair.
