Key economic indicators of high-tech enterprises above designated size in Zhongguancun Science Park (January – August, 2014)

According to the statistical data of enterprises above a designated size from January to August 2014, the total income of Zhongguancun Science Park reached 1.9 trillion yuan ($310 billion) with a year-on-year growth of 15 percent; the gross industrial output value reached 492.85 billion yuan, accounting for more than 40 percent of the city’s total; the current employed population reached 1.699 million with a year-on-year growth of 2.6 percent; the actual paid-in taxes reached 114.96 billion yuan with a year-on-year growth of 28.9 percent; the gross profit was 151.58 billion yuan with a year-on-year growth of 41.8 percent; the total export volume was $20.44 billion with a year-on-year growth of 16.5 percent, occupying nearly half of the city’s total; internal expenses on science and technology activities came to 61.95 billion yuan with a year-on-year increase of 7.9 percent; and the employees of science and technology activities numbered 437,000 with a year-on-year growth of 2 percent, occupying over one quarter of the total employees in the park.

The growth of patent application in Zhonggauancun enterprises reached more than 20 percent. From January to August 2014, the enterprises in Zhongguancun applied for 25,692 patents in total, seeing a year-on-year growth of 16.8 percent and accounting for 31.2 percent of the gross patent applications of the whole city during the corresponding period.

Nearly 60 percent of them are patents of invention, bringing the total number to 15,009 with a year-on-year growth of 20.2 percent.

The enterprises in Zhongguancun have obtained 14,835 patents, accounting for 32 percent of the gross patents of the whole city during the corresponding period.

Among these, 5,033 are patents of invention, which accounts for one third of the park’s total with a year-on-year growth of 9.5 percent.
