'Pay after use' patent model improves efficiency in technological research
The first case of a university patent license using the "pay after use" model was recently implemented in Zhongguancun. The negotiation and agreement signing process took just over half a month.
The Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission, Zhongguancun Administrative Committee, and other departments encourage institutions of higher learning, research and medical and health to authorize small and medium-sized enterprises to try out scientific and technological achievements first and allow them to pay the patent licensing fee after the trial. This new approach improves the efficiency of technological commercialization.
Enterprises and institutions such as universities often have preliminary information and are already frequent partners, but when faced with new technology patents, there is still a gap in information about technological advancement, maturity, and actual market prospects.
Due to risk concerns, enterprises often spend a lot of time and effort on patent evaluation. The "pay after use" model accelerates this process and allows patents to be put into the market for timely validation.
