The Yangjiabai Prawn is a specialty of Yangjiabai town in the Binhai New Area, known for its tender meat, firm texture, full flavor and sweet aftertaste. It has been approved with a national geographical indication trademark. The favorable natural conditions in Yangjiabai allow the high-quality prawns to thrive. The prawns are characterized by their robust fibers, high vitality, rich astaxanthin content and firm, springy meat, reflecting the qualities of natural aquaculture.
The aquaculture industry which produces the prawn is famous for once setting a national record of 1,030 kilograms of Oriental Prawns per mu (a Chinese unit of area equal to 1/15 of a hectare) in yield. After years of innovation and development, Yangjiabai has become a renowned aquatic town, featuring breeding and farming bases for the Pacific white shrimp, as well as serving as northern China's industrial aquaculture technology demonstration base.
