Wuxi sits in the center of the Yangtze River Delta, the most developed economic area in China. It is adjacent to Taihu Lake in the south, the Yangtze River in the north, 128 kilometers west of Shanghai, and 183 km east of Nanjing.

Subways started operating in Wuxi in 2014 and the city's Sunan Shuofang International Airport has direct flights to 75 cities at home and abroad, including Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Singapore, and Osaka.

Wuxi is situated along the high-speed railways connecting Shanghai to Beijing and lies along national highways connecting Shanghai to central and northwestern China. It is also connected via expressway to Shanghai, Suzhou, Changzhou, Zhenjiang and other cities in Jiangsu province.
