The large-scale original Yueju Opera Gallant Sword Eternal captivated audiences during a special performance in Keqiao district, Shaoxing, on Jan 20.

Rooted in the legacy of Gou Jian, the King of Yue from the Spring and Autumn Period (770–476 BC), the production celebrates the enduring "Gallant Sword" spirit, a symbol deeply embedded in Shaoxing's cultural heritage.

Set against the backdrop of Shaoxing's thousand-year history, the opera weaves together the stories of legendary figures from the region, using the rich artistry of Yueju Opera to bring their narratives to life.

Following its successful premiere at the National Centre for the Performing Arts last November, Gallant Sword Eternal launched a national tour in December from Hangzhou. The production is slated to visit additional cities across China throughout this year.
