Daniel Fomude Achu, a 39-year-old teacher from Cameroon, has become a beloved figure in Yueqing, Wenzhou, after living in China for 14 years. He is now fluent in both Mandarin and Wenzhou dialect, and has immersed himself in local traditions and daily life.

Born in Yaounde, Cameroon, Daniel moved to Shanghai in 2010 after becoming intrigued by China's rapid development. He initially worked as an English teacher and quickly picked up Mandarin.

In 2012, he relocated to Wenzhou, where he met and married a local woman. Determined to adapt, he tackled the notoriously complex Wenzhou dialect, mastering phrases used in everyday conversation.

Daniel participates in family gatherings, attends weddings, and has even adopted local habits like drinking warm water and traditional Chinese medicine practices. "The people here treat me like one of their own, which makes me feel truly accepted," he said.

In 2017, Daniel began teaching at Yueqing International Foreign Language School. His innovative teaching methods and approachable demeanor have made him a favorite among students. Beyond the classroom, he engages in community activities like making zongzi for Dragon Boat Festival and competing in local events.

Daniel also frequently explores Yueqing's scenic spots, including Yandang Mountain and local cultural landmarks, sharing videos with friends and family abroad to highlight Yueqing's charm.

For Daniel, Wenzhou and Yueqing are more than just places to live—they are home. "I feel so fortunate to be part of this vibrant, welcoming community," he said, reflecting on his deep bond with the land and its people.
