Resource superiority
Zhangye has various rivers, sufficient sunlight, fertile land and convenient irrigation, which is a national modern agriculture demonstration zone, the largest corn seed production area in the country and the key production bases of grain, vegetables, fruits, oil plants as well as cattle and sheep. It is also the metallic and non-metallic mineral concentration areas of the province’s tungsten, molybdenum, copper, gold, iron, coal, clay and leopoldite as well as the development areas of hydroenergy, luminous energy and wind energy. As the National Historical And Cultural City and the Top Tourist City of China, Zhangye not only has natural scenery but also historical views that boast with profound cultural styles and plenty of cultural landscapes. Zhangye possesses Qilian Mountain grassland, one of the most beautiful scenery in China, Danxia landform, Heihe River wetland and Heihe River valley as well as China’s largest horse breeding farm, the best preserved Great Wall of the Han Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), Yanzhi Mountain, the famous historical and cultural mountain, Zhangye giant Buddha, China’s largest indoor clay reclining Buddha, Shandan giant Buddha and Mati Temple Grottoes.
Economy
In 2021, Zhangye achieved regional GDP of 52.623 billion yuan, an increase of 7 percent over the previous year, among which the added value of the primary industry reached 15.398 billion yuan, an increase of 11 percent; the added value of the secondary industry reached 10.257 billion yuan, an increase of 5.7 percent; the added value of the tertiary industry was 26.967 billion yuan, an increase of 5.3 percent. The ratio of the three industrial structure was 29.3:19.5:51.2. The added value of top 10 ecological industries was 20.151 billion yuan, accounting for 38.3 percent of the city’s regional GDP, the proportion increased by 10.9 percentage points over the previous year. Industrial added value was increased by 8.6 percent over the previous year, among which added value of industries above designated size increased by 8.7 percent. The total retail sales of consumer goods reached 22.858 billion yuan, an increase of 13.7 percent from last year. Revenue in the general public budget achieved 2.83 billion yuan, an increase of 4.9 percent compared with last year; expenditure in general public budgets was 15.711 billion yuan, a decrease of 12.5 percent from last year.
