To build a national agricultural and rural modernization demonstration city, Zhangye City is increasing efforts to develop the advantageous agriculture along the Heihe River, the characteristic agriculture in the Lengliang area along the Qilian Mountain, and the agriculture in the Gobi desert. The city will build six functional areas focused on seeds, beef and dairy cattle, high quality vegetable, special potato, facility agriculture, and leisure and sightseeing agriculture, to promote the cluster development of characteristic and advantageous industries.

By 2025, Zhangye’s agricultural system, production system and business system will become more improved, and the added value of the primary industry will rise by more than six percent annually. In 2023, the city’s per capita disposable income of rural residents will reach the national average level, and in 2024, the town-level per capita disposable income of rural residents shall be lifted to 20,000 yuan. The per capita disposable income of rural residents of each village will be increased to over 20,000 yuan in 2025. The transformation, upgrading and high-quality development of modern agriculture will be realized.
