Sunan Yugur autonomous county, Zhangye, Gansu province has ramped up efforts in building a "zero-carbon city". Pollution reduction and the new energy industry are the new engine for its social and economic development.

The county sets ambitious targets to install a new energy capacity of 15.5 million kilowatts and a water-pumping energy storage of 13.1 kilowatts. Coal burning, sewage disposal and power plants will all be monitored on schedule to ensure safe operation.
