In a kindergarten of Sunan Yugu autonomous county, Zhangye, Gansu province, children experience sand painting, paper-cutting and ethnic cooking under the guidance of their teachers.

In recent years, Sunan has increased its investment in education to alleviate the financial strain on farmers and herders. The county has set up free 15-year basic education programs and expanded this initiative to cover all public kindergartens, offering complimentary services for children under 3 years old.
