One of the national key universities, South China Agricultural University is a Project 211 university sponsored by both Guangdong province and the Ministry of Agriculture. Situated in Guangzhou, which is called the city of flowers, it enjoys beautiful scenery and a pleasant environment. It covers an area of over 8,199 mu (547 hectares), of which the Wushan campus covers 4,395 mu, and the teaching and research base in Zengcheng is 3,804 mu. The total gross floor area is over 1.45 million square meters.

The university offers 99 undergraduate programs, 12 primary disciplines authorized to confer doctorate degrees, one professional PhD degree program, 28 primary disciplines to confer master's degrees, and 15 professional master's degree programs.

The university has one of China's most well-established faculties. The number of staff and faculty is 3,363, including 2,276 full-time teachers. There are 309 supervisors for Ph.D programs, 863 supervisors for academic master's degree programs and 1,243 advisors for professional master's degree programs.

There are 25 colleges (departments) with a total enrollment of over 46,000 full-time students including more than 38,000 undergraduates, 8,000+ graduates and international students.

Drawing on its strengths and unique characteristics, the university is actively involved in international academic communication and scientific cooperation. The university maintains close inter-institutional links with 109 universities from 34 countries in Europe, North America, Asia, Africa, South Africa and the Oceania, and academic exchanges with universities from Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan are constantly reinforced. The university has established a series of research platforms, such as the Joint Institute for Environmental Research and Education, the Sino-US Joint Research Center for Food Safety and the Sino-Pakistan Joint Agricultural Research Institute.
