Online activities celebrate Qixi Festival in Tianhe Updated: August 16, 2021

The six-day 2021 Guangzhou Qiqiao Cultural Festival reached its climax on Aug 14, the day that marked this year's Qixi Festival, or Chinese Valentine's Day.

With lanterns hanging high and colorful flags flying, the cultural elements of Qixi were well displayed at the Mingde ancestral hall in Zhucun village, Tianhe district, where hundreds of miniature handicrafts were on show.

To control the resurgence of the COVID-19 pandemic, the event live broadcast so people were able to experience the charm of Qiqiao culture at home.

Qiqiao means hoping to be diligent and dexterous, and the culture of Qiqiao was listed as an item of China's national intangible cultural heritage in 2011.

The Guangzhou Qiqiao Cultural Festival has been held for 17 years, since 2005. Starting on Aug 9 this year, Zhucun village staged a series of traditional Qixi folk activities that express people's yearning for a better life.
