Events boost diversified consumption in Tianhe Updated: January 11, 2022

The month-long Guangzhou International Shopping Festival, which kicked off on Sept 29, 2021, helped increase the total retail sales of consumer goods in Guangzhou by 5.5 percent in October 2021.

As the main venue of the shopping festival, Tianhe district contributed to the city's growth in the total retail sale of consumer goods.

The "gourmet +" consumption model in the district, a sub-venue for the 2021 Guangzhou International Food Festival that kicked off on Dec 9, also helped stimulate consumption in Guangzhou.

From January to November 2021, the total retail sales of consumer goods in Guangzhou rose by 11.2 percent year on year to 931.84 billion yuan ($146.15 billion), with an annual growth rate of 3.2 percent over the past two years. During the same period, the total business volume of Tianhe's lodging and catering industry ranked first in the city with a year-on-year increase of 36 percent, which is 7.2 percentage points higher than the city's average growth rate.

More than 700 food and beverage brands and over 1,000 stores at Tianhe's shopping malls currently have a commercial area of 50,000 square meters or more.

During last year's food festival, all the shopping centers made use of the large number of food and beverage brands in the district to launch various activities to stimulate consumption in its business circles.

In December 2021, the average daily passenger flow in the Tianhe Road Business Circle and Zhujiang New Town saw a sequential rise.

In 2021, 5.3 million people visited Tianhe's Grandview Mall, increasing by 6 percent year on year.
