10 Tianhe maker spaces, incubators receive Grade A rating

Two maker spaces and eight incubators in Tianhe district were rated as excellent, or Grade A, in a recent management assessment of technology enterprise incubation carriers by the Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong Province.

A total of 169 provincial-level incubation carriers in the province and 324 ones that voluntarily participated in the assessment were evaluated by the department, with 38 maker spaces and 52 incubators rated as excellent.

In addition, five maker spaces and six incubators in Tianhe were designated as good (Grade B), while 15 maker spaces and 10 incubators were designated as qualified (Grade C).

To date, Tianhe has 231 incubators and maker spaces, with 32 at the national level and 36 at the provincial level, both ranking first in Guangzhou.

The district's 90 innovation carriers carry more than 700 high-tech enterprises, cultivating over 10 future innovative unicorns that each have a market valuation of over $50 million.

Unicorn companies are pre-IPO startups with at least $1 billion in market value. Companies with a market value of at least $100 million are potential unicorns, while those with cutting-edge or game-changing technologies are seeded unicorns.
