The first group of public visitors walked into the 110-kilovolt Lieqiao Transformer Substation, also known as the Guangzhou Transformer Substation Science Popularization Center, in Tianhe district on March 29.

The two-story transformer substation covers a combined floor area of nearly 5,000 square meters, with the science popularization exhibition hall located on the second floor. Transparent observation windows are installed to allow direct viewing of the main transformer room and the main control room.

In addition to a guide providing an introduction, interaction activities like the field measurement of electromagnetic induction in the transformer substation were also carried out to enable visitors to learn more about the substation.

"Many villagers were worried about radiation when hearing that a transformer substation would be built nearby," said a villager from Liede village surnamed Li. "Through today's visit, we have learnt that the substation's radiation is smaller than daily household appliances. We're happy to welcome such a neighbor."

Construction of the transformer substation applied environmentally-friendly concepts and technologies like sponge cities, making the substation the first of its kind in the country to obtain both international and domestic green building certification.
