Tianhe's GDP aims to increase by 6.5% in 2023

Tianhe district is aiming to increase its GDP by over 6.5 percent to exceed 650 billion yuan ($95.87 billion) in 2023, said Chen Jiameng, the district's Party secretary, at Guangzhou's high-quality development conference on Jan 28.

The district's gross investment in fixed assets will surpass 73 billion yuan this year, with a year-on-year increase of over 20 percent.

According to Chen, Tianhe will adhere to the "two-wheel drive" of the modern service industry and strategic emerging industries to enhance internal factors pushing forward high-quality development.

The district will also focus on adjusting and optimizing its industrial structure. It will strive to introduce 130 key industrial projects, 11 land-use projects, and three projects with an investment of over 10 billion yuan, as well as add 15 new licensed financial institutions. The revenue of the software industry is expected to increase by over 13 percent, while that of the high-end professional service industry will grow by over 18 percent. The total output value of industrial enterprises above designated size will also increase by more than 8 percent.

In terms of Tianhe's four platforms, the Tianhe central business district (CBD) will expand its building economy and headquarters economy, while Guangzhou International Financial City will advance eight key tasks like investment promotion and infrastructure construction. Tianhe Smart City and Tianhe Intelligence Valley will accelerate the construction of six key areas.

Tianhe will expand effective investment this year. It will accelerate the construction, completion, and operation of 145 key projects with an annual planned investment of 73 billion yuan.

The district will also further promote the construction of the Tianhe Road Business Circle as a demonstration smart business circle, as well as jointly advance the high-quality development of Zhujiang New Town and Guangzhou International Financial City business circles. It is expected that the district's total merchandise sales in 2023 will exceed 1.4 trillion yuan, and the retail sales of consumer goods will surpass 200 billion yuan.

In addition, Tianhe will continue to improve its soft and hard environment. It will plan a number of reform measures to improve government services and connect with commercial rules in Hong Kong and Macao. It will also continue to improve the living environment, advance the renovation of the Guangzhou East Railway Station, as well as push forward construction of the fifth and sixth lines from Guangzhou East Railway Station to Xintang Railway Station.
