The Tianhe tax bureau has taken multiple measures to assist disabled people in finding jobs and starting up businesses.

Wang Fuqiang, a disabled doctor that specializes in gynecology in the traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) field, opened a TCM clinic in Tianhe's Chebei neighborhood. In recent years, the clinic has been enjoying the district's value-added tax exemption policy.

"It is much tougher for people like us to start up a business, but we've received a lot of support and love along the way," said Wang. "For example, the Tianhe tax bureau has been very concerned about the operation of our clinic, and timely explained relevant preferential tax policies to reduce our burden."

The improving tax handling models in the district, including the opening of special channels for disabled people at the tax service hall, have brought great convenience to local residents.

"Many tax-related affairs can now be handled directly on the phone, which is also good news for us with limited mobility," Wang added.

In addition, enterprises that have a certain proportion of disabled employees can enjoy preferential tax policies and be exempted from paying the employment security fund of these employees.

The Guangzhou branch of Guangshen Railway has 21 disabled employees and saved 60,208.43 yuan ($8,515.46) in 2021, due to the employment security fund exemption.

Zeng Jiefeng, the finance chief in the company, said, "having disabled employees not only contribute back to the community, but also allows for tax cuts that will reduce the burden on enterprises, which is a win-win for everyone."
