Guangzhou's Tianhe district won second-place in the recent Guangzhou division of the "Green Guangdong" competition.

The district, located south of the Jiulian Mountain Range and north of the Pearl River, boasts an ecological pattern of "one river, three mountains and five waters". The South China National Botanical Garden and the Pangolin Conservation Research Center under the National Forestry and Grassland Administration are also located here.

Tianhe took the lead in the city in building a four-tier park system, which includes ecological parks, urban parks, community parks and pocket parks, to create a pleasant living environment. To date, it has built 92 parks of all kinds and 150 kilometers of greenways.

It also planned to create 30 km of ecological trails on Huolu, Longyandong, and Fenghuang mountains. So far, construction of 50 mu (3.33-hectare) of colorful forests, 50 mu of landscape forests, 15 mu of woodlands and 5 km of forest trails have been completed.

In addition to building a pocket park, the 407-year-old camphor tree on Shadong Street was also utilized by Tianhe to carry out forest protection activities. Starting from Tianhe Park, the district initiated sapling donation and voluntary tree planting activities to enhance people's environmental awareness.
