Riding the wave of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), many technology enterprises in Guangzhou's Tianhe district have plugged into overseas markets, with Guangzhou Hedong Electronic (HDL) among them.

Headquartered in Tianhe's Keyun Road, HDL specializes in smart home, intelligent lighting, smart hotel and intelligent commercial building construction. Starting its global businesses in 2007, it saw an increase in overseas opportunities after the BRI was put forward in 2013.

"In recent years, the number of overseas projects invested in by Chinese companies has increased rapidly, and the number of overseas orders received by HDL is also rising," said Lawrence, HDL's international director.

By 2023, HDL had conducted business in more than 100 countries and regions around the world, of which more than 90 percent are in countries involved in the Belt and Road. Landmark buildings that have adopted the company's intelligent control system include the headquarters of the Asian Development Bank in the Philippines, the Dubai International Airport, the BMW Museum in Germany, and the National Opera House in the Czech Republic.

"For enterprises, the BRI offers both hope and innovation," said Liang Guoqin, HDL's chairman of the board. "It will also promote the vigorous development of the global smart home market."

In the past two years, HDL's overseas business has maintained a growth rate of 50 percent.
