An industrial seminar to mark the 50th anniversary of the founding of Dongfeng Motor Co was held in Xiangyang, Central China’s Hubei province, on Sept 3.

A number of business representatives from Dongfeng Motor, Huawei, Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL, China's largest battery maker), and more took part in the discussions on a variety of topics, including intelligent connections, electrification, and sharing.

Artificial intelligence (AI) and internet of things (IoT) technologies have been being rapidly applied in a number of fields, and the development of connected vehicles has become a mega trend in the automobile industry.

Dongfeng, based in the Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone, where a national-level demonstration center for connected vehicle testing is currently under construction, has successfully tested self-driving vehicles on closed expressways and has created self-driving technology powered by 5G networks.

The company also plans to simultaneously develop electric, hybrid, and hydrogen vehicles and will build an industrial park for new energy vehicles. It has developed several online services, including Dongfeng Chuxing, a car-hailing platform, and Free2Move Carsharing. The Dongfeng Chuxing app has been downloaded more than 600,000 times, with more than 10,000 orders made on the platform every day.
