The third strawberry cultural festival was held in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia autonomous region on March 9.

The festival -- organized by the Hohhot science and technology bureau and Xincheng district government -- featured cultural shows, photo exhibitions and a trade fair for strawberry products.

Hohhot has promoted strawberry planting in recent years and introduced 34 strawberry varieties from Liaoning, Shaanxi and Shandong provinces.

With a total planting area of more than 4,000 mu (266.67 hectares), the city produces over five million kilograms of strawberry every year.

The festival, inaugurated in 2016, has helped expand the strawberry sector and improve the industry's reputation and standing nationally. 

According to local government officials, the festival has also led to an upsurge in strawberry picking across the city.
