2019-09-11 By Lu Wei

A variety of themed activities celebrating Mid-Autumn Festival will be staged at Baotou Museum, Baotou, in North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region, the Baotou Daily reported on Sept 10.

Residents can register for the mooncake-making activity which will take place on Sept 13 and the activity will be carried out in family groups. The museum will have staff on hand to help participants prepare the mooncakes.

The museum will further promote Chinese culture by organizing a DIY activity on Sept 15. Myths concerning the Mid-Autumn Festival will be selected for sharing. Participants can create cloth-pasting pictures to present their impressions about the Mid-Autumn Festival.

Mid-Autumn Festival is a traditional festival celebrated by Chinese people on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month. This year’s Mid-Autumn Festival is to fall on Sept 13.

The festival celebrates three fundamental concepts which are closely tied to one another: gathering, giving thanks and praying.

It is an occasion for outdoor reunions between relatives and friends. Traditional activities include eating mooncakes, watching the full moon and guessing lantern riddles -- an activity involving writing riddles on lanterns while other people try to guess the answers.

The festival was listed as an intangible cultural heritage item in 2006 and became a public holiday in 2008.
