Party secretary Shi Taifeng recently urged Ordos city to make every effort in order to promote the stable economic growth and high-quality development of North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region.
He made the remarks on Jan 23 while taking part in discussions with fellow deputies from the delegation from Ordos city at the sixth session of the 13th Inner Mongolia Autonomous Regional People's Congress.
Shi pointed out that Ordos was the largest economic city in Inner Mongolia and was playing a pivotal role in the economic development of the entire region.
Efforts, Shi said, should be made in terms of upgrading its infrastructure, guaranteeing energy supply and protecting the environment.
Ordos reportedly aims to guide resident businesses to increase investment in research and development, to continue to extend their industrial supply chains and develop non-coal industries and the low-carbon economy.
The city also plans to introduce and develop a number of high-tech enterprises – all in a bid to promote economic development from resource-dependent sectors to innovation-driven sectors.
Furthermore, Ordos is aiming to promote the transformation and development of the coal industry in accordance with the development direction of going green and low carbon.
It will improve its level of clean and efficient utilization of coal and promote the high-end, diversified and low-carbon development of the coal chemicals industry.
While upgrading its traditional industries, plans are for Ordos to develop solar and wind power, speed up the flexible transformation of coal-fired power units and increase the capacity of new energy consumption.
The city also plans to prioritize the protection and treatment of the areas along the Yellow River. Action – including flood control, pollution prevention and control, relocation of local residents and environmental restoration – will be taken.
