Rudong expands welfare center to improve services
Rudong county in Nantong, Jiangsu province is spending 29 million yuan ($4.07 million) to expand its welfare center, which is expected to open by the end of 2020.
According to project plans, the building area will be expanded by 3,000 square meters and over 100 beds will be added in an effort to further integrate medical treatment with senior care services.
The exterior has already been completed, and the interior is currently being renovated. Construction is expected to finish in October and start operating by the end of this year, said Sheng Haijuan, director of the welfare center.
The center previously couldn't meet the needs of disabled seniors due to a lack of necessary medical equipment. Two buildings in the center will be renovated to primarily serve disabled seniors, and three residential buildings for seniors who can take care of themselves will also be expanded.
During the expansion process, the center is continuing to provide services for the elderly, with 12 healthy seniors and 80 disabled seniors currently living there.
