A special calligraphy event was held in the Nantong Economic and Technological Development Area (NETDA) on Jan 22 to celebrate the upcoming Chinese New Year and spread festive blessings to local residents.

At the event, four calligraphers used traditional brushes to write auspicious couplets and the character "福" , symbolizing good fortune and happiness.

One of the calligraphers, Zhou Jianhua, vice-president of the NETDA calligraphy association, is a retired veteran. "I started practicing calligraphy when I enlisted in the military, and I've been doing it for decades," Zhou said. "I find it meaningful to send blessings to my fellow veterans and local residents in this way."

In total, over 100 spring couplets and "福" characters were given out, helping to spread and promote Chinese traditional culture.
