As Jiangsu province's largest county-level green electricity supplier, Rudong has been leveraging its wind and solar resources to develop a new energy storage industry since 2022.
The county has now surpassed 7.15 million kilowatts in installed new energy capacity, including 5.62 million kilowatts of wind power. It operates 32 wind farms, accounting for one-fourth of Jiangsu's total wind power capacity, with offshore wind power reaching 4.83 million kilowatts—40 percent of the province's total.
Established on April 7, 2022, Jiangsu Fengchu Smart Energy, a subsidiary of China Three Gorges Renewables Group, launched Jiangsu's first and largest shared energy storage project, the 200MW/400MWh Three Gorges Fuhai Energy Storage Station, which successfully connected to the grid on Nov 29, 2023. A second-phase 100MW/200MWh shared energy storage project is currently underway.
Additionally, the Guohua Rudong Solar-Hydrogen-Storage Integration Project—a key initiative led by the Rudong government in collaboration with Guohua Energy Investment, National Institute of Clean and Low-Carbon Energy, and Jiangsu Zhongtian Technology—has begun operations. This 400MW offshore solar power plant, spanning 286.67 hectares, is the first in China to integrate photovoltaic power generation, hydrogen production and refueling, and energy storage, marking a significant milestone in coastal ecological restoration and comprehensive energy utilization.
