Located in the southwest region of Henan, Tanghe county had a population of 1.40 million in 2010, and covered an area of 2,512 square kilometers.

Tanghe county is China's most famous production base of commodity grain, cotton and oil, and an important petroleum base. In 2012, the GDP of Tanghe county totaled 18.28 billion yuan ($3 billion) with a per capita GDP of 14,734 yuan.
