Sheqi, a county in Nanyang, is a well-known town of opera, especially the Yuediao opera, of which it is one of the birthplaces.
Yuediao opera was listed in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritages by the State Council in May 2006.
The Yuediao Opera Troupe in Sheqi county was also evaluated as a provincial intangible cultural heritage protection unit in Henan province.
Recently, the troupe performed the new historical play titled Hansang Qing at the Guangong Cultural Tourism Festival held in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region. Guangong, or Guan Yu, a famous general in Chinese history, is revered as a God of War.
The play brings different aesthetic feelings to its audiences with heroic artistic forms, musical dialogue, dancing, and beautiful lyrics and costumes.
