The Nanyang Bureau of Culture, Broadcasting and Tourism plans to urge the municipal library to start the Nanyang City Library (original site) renovation, expansion and reconstruction project as soon as possible. The old library will be temporarily named Nanyang Library Branch or Nanyang Children's Library.

The original library is located on Gongye South Road in the city's urban area. The main building covers an area of 5,370 square meters while the auxiliary library and its reading room cover more than 4,000 square meters.

Since the city library moved to its new site, city leaders have attached great importance to utilizing the old library. After two on-site inspections, the old library will be upgraded as soon as possible, and it is expected to resume operations in the second half of 2021.
