March 24 is the 26th World Tuberculosis Day. The theme of this year's event in China is "End the tuberculosis epidemic and breathe freely and healthily".

In order to raise public awareness of this disease, Laozhuang Town Health Center in Zhenping county, Nanyang city has carried out a tuberculosis prevention and control publicity campaign.

The center has increased its publicity efforts by setting up consultation desks, exhibition boards, and hanging slogans. It has also been distributing tuberculosis-related information booklets, and creating leaflets and shopping bags printed with prevention and treatment tips.

In order to increase the participation of groups, a prize-winning question and answer competition was also carried out.

Medical staff also explained tuberculosis symptoms, transmission routes, treatment, prevention and other related information in easy-to-understand language to farmers in the deep mountains, making them realize the value of preventing tuberculosis and expounding the importance of "early detection, early diagnosis, and early treatment".

During the campaign, the center issued more than 500 posters and leaflets and more than 300 brochures on tuberculosis prevention. More than 200 residents' consultations were received.

The country's infectious disease reporting system shows that in recent years, there have been more than 40,000 student tuberculosis cases across the country each year. Judging from the reporting age, the 15-24 year-old age group accounts for about 85 percent of the total number of reported cases of tuberculosis among students.

It is a population with a high incidence of tuberculosis. Through publicity and education, young people are gaining a sense of self-protection against tuberculosis, and are learning the information they need to prevent and control the disease.
