On Feb 9, the 12th day of the first month on traditional Chinese calendar, the Xixia district hosted a Shehuo parade, a collection of traditional folk shows themed the "Auspicious Snake Brings Blessings for a Joyful Spring Festival". Fifteen teams from various towns and streets in the Xixia district gathered together to celebrate the Spring Festival of the Year of the Snake and welcome the Lantern Festival. On-site, captivating folk performances such as yangko dances, dragon and lion dances, showcased the unique charm of this folk culture of Shehuo.
Nearly 70 students from the North Minzu University and over 60 performers from folk art groups presented a stunning dragon dance performance. Each community also meticulously arranged programs, including the Shaanxi yangko dance and intangible cultural heritage paper-cutting displays, conveying Chinese New Year blessings. The audience was filled with laughter and joy, immersed in a festive atmosphere.
Shehuo is a treasure of folk art carrying profound historical and cultural significance. In the Xixia district, a land rich in cultural heritage, Shehuo is not only a performance but also an important form for locals to convey blessings and promote traditional culture. "Everyone participates in the Shehuo parade to create a joyful and harmonious festive atmosphere, showcasing a hope for a better future," said Mr. Mu, an audience on-site. "The festive drumbeats reflect the Xixia district people's spirited determination and vitality; the lively yangko dances express the residents' love and longing for a better life."
The Director of the Xixia district Culture, Tourism, Sports, Radio, and Television Bureau stated that the purpose of this event is to inherit folk culture, inspire enthusiasm among people, and demonstrate the Xixia district locals' expectation for a better life.
