East China's Shandong province held a cultural trade promotion conference on July 30 in the United States city of Los Angeles, which was organized by the Shandong provincial department of commerce.

The Shandong delegation -- composed of nearly 30 representatives from government departments and enterprises of Shandong cities such Jinan, Qingdao, Yantai and Rizhao -- gave a detailed presentation on the province.

They also presented a detailed picture of each city's economic development, pillar industries, development planning as well as investment policies.

Nearly 200 representatives from local enterprises, movie companies, financial institutions and the mainstream media took part in the event.

Wang Jin, Culture Consul of Chinese Consulate-General in Los Angeles, spoke highly of Shandong's long history and rich culture in her speech and extended her warm congratulations on the opening of the Shandong cultural trade promotion conference.

She said that people-to-people and cultural exchanges between China and the United States are an important part of Sino-US relations, and Shandong has a great advantage in this respect.

She hoped that through the promotion, local people could gain a deeper understanding of Shandong, so as to further promote the cultural, economic and trade exchanges between the province and Los Angeles.

Congresswoman Judy Chu said in a speech that she highly appreciated the cultural, economic and trade exchanges between Shandong and California.

She said that she was deeply impressed by the trade promotion event held in Los Angeles by Shandong province, the hometown of Confucius.

"Of the many activities I have participated in, this event is the only one from China that has lasted for five consecutive years in my constituency," Chu added.
