Jinan, capital of East China's Shandong province, has shown vigorous and successful development in reform, innovation, and opening-up in recent years. Its GDP totaled 1.14 trillion yuan ($179.5 billion) in 2021, ranking 18th among Chinese cities.

The city's general public budget revenue exceeded 100 billion yuan, putting it at 17th among Chinese cities.

The city's efforts to promote the transformation of old growth drivers into new ones also paid off. In 2021, the value added of the "Four New Economy" (new technology, new business pattern, new development mode, and new industry) increased to 37.7 percent of the total economy.

The number of high-tech enterprises reached 4,397, accounting for one-fifth of the provincial total, and the output value of high-tech industries accounted for 54.7 percent of the total output value of industries above designated size.

The information technology service industry cluster was included in the first batch of China's strategic emerging industry clusters, and the digital economy accounted for 45 percent of the city's GDP in 2021.

In addition, the general public budget revenue amounted to 100.76 billion yuan, while government expenditures totaled 129.31 billion yuan.

People's living standards also improved last year as the per capita disposable income of urban and rural residents increased by 7.7 percent and 10.5 percent to 57,449 yuan and 22,580 yuan, respectively.
