Chaotian district, the first county-level political, economic and cultural center people will come across if they coming into Sichuan province from the north, is located at the southern foot of the Qinba Mountains, just at the intersection of the Shu Path and the Jialing River.

It covers 1,613 square kilometers, and governs 210,000 people in 12 townships, 124 administrative villages and 15 communities.

Chaotian boasts a rich history and cultures as diverse as Zhongzipu's fine stones, the Shu Path, folklore, health preservation and red or revolution-based attractions.

In particular, it is a concentrated display of the ancient plank road culture in the pre-Qin period (c.2100-221 BC), the core corridor of the Shu Path culture and the Shu Han culture of the Three Kingdoms (220-280).

The forest coverage of the whole area reaches 65.7 percent, forming an important ecological barrier for the upper reaches of the Jialing River. There are four national AAAA-level tourist attractions, namely Zengjia Mountain, one of the top ten summer resorts in China, the Mingyue Gorge, the China Transportation History Museum, Longmen Pavilion, and Shuimogou.

Chaotian has superior geographical conditions. The Xi'an-Chengdu High-Speed Railway, the Lanzhou-Chongqing Railway, the Baoji-Chengdu Railway, the Beijing-Kunming Expressway, and National Highway 108 pass through it, making it an important transportation hub connecting Shu Path, Sichuan and Shaanxi, and Gansu and Chongqing.

In the new era, the Chaotian people are striving to build a new regional development pattern for a prosperous and harmonious Chaotian with a higher level of ecological civilization.
