Xiamen book fair features HK, Macao publications

The 15th Cross-Straits Book Fair is scheduled to run on Sept 20-22 this year in Xiamen, Fujian province. A special exhibition of books from Hong Kong and Macao will be held for the first time during the fair, the organizing committee announced on Aug 22.

According to the organizing committee, publishers from Hong Kong and Macao will be invited to the fair and recent publications from more than 20 Hong Kong and Macao publishers will go on display.

The total exhibition area of this year's book fair will reach 34,500 square meters, including the main exhibition hall at Xiamen International Conference & Exhibition Center, covering 13,500 sq m.

About 320 publishing houses from the Chinese mainland and about 200 booksellers from Taiwan have registered to participate in the fair thus far and about 700,000 books from both sides of the Taiwan Straits will be on display.

The past 14 editions of the fair, which have been held alternately in Xiamen and Taiwan since 2005, have to date displayed a total of more than 9 million books and generated deals worth around 460 million yuan ($64.39 million). And a total of 2,360 commercial agreements have been signed during previous book fairs.
