Liu Yu, Wuxi Chinese Orchestra reimagine 'Wuxi Scene'
Singer Liu Yu, dancer Li Yikun and the Wuxi Chinese Orchestra teamed up for New Wuxi Scene at the Weibo Music Awards 2026, bringing a contemporary edge to a classic Wuxi folk song.
The performance at Wuxi Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium became a highlight of the star-studded night, blending pop, dance and traditional music.
Along with Moon Reflected on the Second Spring and Beauty of Taihu Lake, Wuxi Scene is one of Wuxi's most representative musical works. It was previously presented at the 2025 CMG Spring Festival Gala. The new version by Liu, Li and the Wuxi Chinese Orchestra offered a fresh interpretation of the song's enduring appeal.
Wuxi, known as a UNESCO City of Music, has a folk music tradition shaped by Taihu Lake, its ancient wharves and the rhythms of daily life. The ceremony also highlighted other local cultural symbols, including Huishan clay figurines, Wuxi fine embroidery, Yixing purple clay teapots and the city's tourism mascot. Together, they reflected Wuxi's cultural richness and its Jiangnan heritage.
Music is a city's calling card, and the awards gave Wuxi a national stage to showcase its Jiangnan culture, lake scenery, and urban vitality to music fans. For Liu Yu and the Wuxi Chinese Orchestra, the collaboration also showed how a traditional local sound can find new life on a contemporary stage.
