Miaozhen town rides water sports wave to boost economy
Miaozhen town is transforming its ecological assets into economic vitality by developing a new aquatic sports hub along the South Hengyin River. Colorful kayaks now dot the waterway, blending sporting energy with scenic beauty.
Through its riverside M515 Arts Center, the town has revitalized idle resources by investing in social capital. Kayaking, paddleboarding, and sailing now draw visitors, boosting tourism and unlocking consumption potential.
The aquatic base caters to diverse groups with various experiences, offering 1 kilometer of leisure paddling, 3 kilometers of skill challenges, and a demanding 7 km loop. Liu Xiong of Shanghai Chongming Supman Camp revealed, "We are planning annual municipal events like a water marathon and will host district-level sailing and rowing teams."

This initiative fills a gap in professional aquatic venues while collaborating with nearby attractions: the 515 Arts Center, homestays, and an import goods hub. Through the integration of resources and shared customer traffic, a new matrix blending culture, tourism, commerce, and sports is emerging.
Miaozhen town will continue to integrate competitions, cultural experiences, and water performances, fueling sustainable growth for Chongming's tourism economy.
